Students will explore their artistic talents through varying art activities. Some of these activities include painting, watercolors, quilting, sculpting, and learning art interpretation.
The B. A. M male etiquette and mentoring course is designed to assist young males in learning how to become a man in all aspects of life. Included is a male etiquette course used to focus young men on the strength in the appearance, social skills, and presentation.
Students learn the basic to advanced elements of Chess and use them in daily tournament play. These important skills include critical thinking, strategic planning, and creative problem solving.
Classes are taught in English and Spanish. Parents / students learn how to use computer programs such as Microsoft Power Point, Outlook, Excel, Word etc.
Students will learn varying dance movements and styles, including: hip hop, salsa, two step, stepping, and much more. Students are taught the fundamentals of dance such as: centering, gravity, balance, posture, gesture, rhythm, moving in space and breathing.
Drum line - Students in the drum line will be introduced to snares, tenors, bass drums, and cymbals. Participants will learn variations of music, timing, discipline and teamwork.
Assists students and parents develop operable English speaking skills through a variety of activities. This course focuses on teaching listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and writing.
The F.A.M.E. Female mentoring and etiquette course designed to assist young females in learning how to become confident women in all aspects of life. Included is a female etiquette course used to focus young females on the strengthening womanhood, appearance, social skills, and presentation. Female students learn proper sitting, standing, walking and pivoting techniques are not just for models, but also for all young women who want to be poised and graceful. Skin care, hair care, hand care, nutrition and exercise are discussed.
Students will learn to choreograph several short dance combinations and teach them to the class. Learn 1-2 movements at a time and repeating the movements until the class is able to join the whole choreography together. Aerobic music is used throughout the class. Each session will be followed by a strength section, which uses body weight exercises to strengthen muscles and a stretch routine to cool down and improve flexibility. It is practiced to improve aerobic fitness, flexibility and strength. Participants are adults and students on or affiliated with the campus.
Students will learn to create and maintain a garden on their school campus. Students will also learn to weed, water, prune, and plant vegetables and fruits, learning organic techniques. Students may take any harvested fruits, veggies or herbs home with them.
In addition to individualized content specific tutorials, students will be allotted a block of time for homework completion and help daily. To remain consistent with what is currently being taught in the classroom; teachers of all participants will be notified of the students' participation in the program. The teachers will be asked to send a note along with any homework, or class assignment that the student may have difficulty with.
Our journalism component is an introduction to writing news and features for school newspaper and newsletters. As a team of reporters and editors, the students will produce a school print publication. During this program, the students will learn strategies for finding information for news stories from other print media and the internet. This program is designed the support the fundamental skills of creative writing, teach students engaging interviewing, reporting techniques, and layout.
Students in keyboarding will learn note identification, rhythm, and playing their favorite songs. Our piano lessons will have many sub-parts.
Students will learn self-defense, discipline, and self-confidence through the instruction of multiple forms of martial arts.
Students will learn basic video production techniques including filming with a DV recorder and shot composition. Students will also learn to use video production to create educational media used to assist teachers with delivery of lessons, experiments, lectures, etc.
Introduction to concepts of photojournalism for newspapers, magazines and other publications. Focus on shot composition. Theory and practice with black and white / color photography: lighting, filters, and color printing.
Our Science / Engineering workshops cover a broad range of science topics, such as Physics, Engineering, Biology, Computers, Chemistry, and Electronics. Our science component explores science through activities like making and erupting their very own Volcanoes, growing Chia Pets, playing with Invisible Ink and making Smoke Ring Cannons. The engineering component focuses on the students learning the basics of structures and strength of materials. Students are in building activities such as building kites, designing and building machines, creating mega bridges, making fishing rods and making a flying WIG craft. Advanced students may participate creating hydraulic machines, or wiring their very own Electro-Magnetic Fire Alarm!
Students learn various competitive sports such as soccer, football, track, basketball, etc. Strong focus is placed on concepts of physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Students will be assisted in developing their own personal talents. Topics addressed consist of acting techniques, voice and microphone use, lyrical development, stage presence, marketing yourself, movement for camera, gesture and the frame, role analysis, concentration, and relaxation. Preparation, performance and critique of taped scenes.
The Y.L.T.C tutorial program, including Special Education and Bilingual/ESL services, will offer a challenging academic curriculum that emphasizes sequential development of courses in the basic disciplines, (English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Fine Arts, Computer Science-Technology and Physical Education). Reading Writing, speaking and listening will be integrated in all subject areas. The major highlight of our tutorial plan will be the matter of assessing students. Our goal is to use the results from the assessment instruments to drive instruction. This method will allow us to diversify and modify instruction to fit the needs of each individual student, thus an individual educational plan (IEP), will be created for the purposes of targeting each participants needs.
